伊麗莎白港采用非開挖技術由非開挖技術有限公司管理的一支隊伍承擔了位于南非伊麗莎白港商務區中心兩條平行的污水管道的修復工程。開始設計時,計劃在整個工程中采用螺旋纏繞修復技術。但后來,施工人員很快就發現,由于現場施工條件的限制,在某些部分需要采用原位固化(翻轉內襯)修復技術和爆管技術。
為了順利地完成這個工程,總共采用了五種不同的非開挖修復技術,即:緊配合的纏繞技術、原位纏繞技術、常溫固化的翻轉內襯技術、紫外線固化的翻轉內襯技術和爆管技術。該工程是采用非開挖技術在不開挖路面,不干擾交通的條件下,成功處理未曾預料到的現場條件的最好工程實例。

Port Elizabeth Goes Trenchless
A team managed by Trenchless Technologies cc undertook the rehabilitation of two parallel sewers located in the heart of the Port Elizabeth’s Business District in South Africa. Originally designed to use the spiral wound technique throughout the project, the team soon discovered that site conditions required also using CIPP and pipe bursting at certain locations.
Altogether, the project used five different trenchless techniques – spiral wound expanded to a close fit, spiral wound in-place, ambient cured-in-place pipe, UV cured-in-place pipe and pipe bursting to successfully complete the project. This project is an excellent example of using trenchless technology options to address unanticipated site conditions allowing the project to be completed successfully without excavation and surface disruption.

Milling Mole
The Milling Mole method is a sludge-based jacking method that is capable of cutting metal obstructions such as PC or steel piles left in the earth from previous urban development projects.
The Milling Mole system combined several pieces of equipment used to safely cut subsurface metal obstructions into a tunneling machine including (1) inspection technology to determine the presence of metal obstructions and the distance to the obstructions, (2) improvement technology to fix the obstructions and secure the surrounding area, and (3) cutting technology to cut the obstructions by pushing a cutting bit into the obstructions using low-speed boring.
The enhanced capability of the Milling Mole method to tunnel through metal obstructions greatly simplifies the construction process associated with underground urban development projects, since metal obstructions in the earth no longer force routes to be changed or expensive specialist construction processes to be carried out.

Smart Cutter?
In Finland, cured-in-place lining offers a good solution for the renovation of household drains, including smaller kitchen and bathroom drains. Reconnecting these smaller drains to the lateral requires an innovative solution. The Smart Cutter? addresses this need.
The Smart Cutter? offers a number of components that allow the user to match specific size and geometric conditions of the pipes. The Cutter may be powered by either a grinding machine or hand drill. A hub is matched to the pipe diameter profile. A front-facing drill head and side grinding panels are loaded onto the hub and inserted into the lateral to be reopened. Power is applied and the cutting begins. Once the cutter passes through the liner wall, the cutter is pulled back the drill head removed and replaced with a blank end. The Smart Cutter? is inserted back into the lateral where rotating panels grind away the remaining of the liner edges reinstating the connection.

Retrospective Evaluation of CIPP Sewer Rehabilitation
A multi-discipline team undertook the first-ever study in the US to assess the long-term performance of cured-in-place pipes that had been installed up to 25 years ago. Tests were conducted on 11 properties of the liners including flexural strength and flexural modulus. All flexural strength values exceeded ASTM minimum standards and generally fell within a narrow range.
Except for two samples, the flexural modulus values were above the ASTM minimum standard. The variation in pipe performance appears to result from variability within the liner rather than a change over time. The study showed that the pipes appeared to be in good condition and should last their designed 50-year life and perhaps well beyond.

Modeling of Pipe Roofing Technology
The paper summarizes the thesis study undertaken by Veronika Onderkova to model and evaluate pipe roofing using microtunneling to rehabilitate the Jablunkov railroad tunnel in the Czech Republic.
The study used 2D Plaxis V8 (FEM) software to model and compare results of alternative rehabilitation technologies. The model calculated the bearing capacity of the retaining wall, passive earth pressures, etc.
The analysis was particularly challenging given the complex geological and hydrogeological conditions of the tunnel location. The study results validated the project team’s selection of a pipe roofing arch using microtunneling for rehabilitating the Jablunkov tunnel.
As with any modeling of this complexity, there are issues that require further refinement and research. However, the research results of this study produced reasonable results that seem to validate this approach as a design assessment tool.
